Things to add to your Netflix queue
The big game is over, and you know you don’t give a rats ass about the Pro Bowl, so let’s see what needs to jump into your Netflix queue this week.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - With a title like that, it has to be worth watching, right?
The Brave One - Jodie Foster becomes a vigilante? Yep, and all indications are she pulls it off pretty well.
It’s a short list this week, but it’ll give us all a chance to catch up a bit eh?
Things to add to your Netflix queue
Once again it’s Monday, so let’s see what Netflix has in store for us this week.
The Comebacks - This is another spoof movie, this one pokes fun at inspiration sports movies. On a week where Meet the Spartans just beat Rambo at the box office, this is a suitable release.
King of California - Don’t let the 3 star rating fool you, I really enjoyed this movie. Read my review for details.
The Invasion - It would take a lot to make me watch this one again.. yeck!
The King of Kong - Now this is more like it! We loved this one during it’s limited release and I’ll be watching it on DVD this week for certain. Also check out the MFG interview with Seth Gordon, the director of The King of Kong.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Vol. 5 - It’s Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake! Do you really need any other reason to pop this one in your queue?
That’s a reasonable selection for this week, and some good stuff to have around the house for next weekend when your buddies are over for the big game.
Things to add to your Netflix queue
It’s Monday again, and you know the drill. We sort what’s coming out on DVD this week so you don’t have to, here’s what you might find interesting:
The Game Plan - Action stars all get to a point of their careers where they think they need to show their “softer” side, so they do a family movie. This time Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tries to be a daddy to a cute 7-yr old that he didn’t know he had. Only watch this if you’re a huge fan of The Rock. I’ll be skipping it.
Saw IV - I was not a fan of this movie, and I won’t be watching the DVD. But, I’m in the minority here, so have at it!
Fatal Contact - Martial arts with a budget and seemingly typical storyline. I watched this last night and will report in with my review later today on the mothership.
That’s it, seems to be a really lame week for DVD’s. Time to take care of some back titles in your queue.
Netflix offers unlimited streaming video to members
It’s widely expect that Apple will begin to offer movie rentals via iTunes later today. This is a smart move for Apple as most people won’t purchase an electronic version of a movie instead of purchasing a physical DVD, the economics just don’t make sense to do so. However, renting is another matter altogether.
Netflix has offered streaming to their membership for awhile now but it’s been limited in hours, 1 hour for each dollar your membership cost per month. So if you pay them $17 a month for rentals, you can stream 17 hours worth of material. In theory going unlimited should give them a good salvo in a rental war against Apple.
There’s still a question of titles, and we all know that content is king and there’s simply not enough to watch online at Netflix to make a difference. Take my queue for example as I have 257 titles in my queue as of this second, and only 7 of them can be streamed online. With a ratio like that I never even bother to see if streaming is an option.
Apple has studios lined up for their announcement so I imagine they’ll have all the major titles available. Plus, they have AppleTV to stream them to so people can watch them in comfort instead of using a computer. Not that anyone owns an AppleTV.
Unless Netflix can get the studios to give them access to the same titles Apple has, unlimited isn’t going to make a bit of a difference other than providing a bullet point for Netflix marketing.
